Star Wars and the American Dream
Throughout the late 70’s, Star Wars was a growing “cult” of people wanting more. People wanted more of this sci-fi world. And as the craze of a sci-fi madness was spreading as more and more people wanted to be richer… Throughout history people have wanted to gain more… In episode 3 ”Revenge of The Sith” Anakin Skywalker states that he wants more power even though he can't. And in Episode 5 “Empire Strikes Back” luke talks about needing to grow more powerful to destroy Vader. In the early 80’s the Communist were becoming more and more powerful. This can relate to Star Wars, In episode 1, “The Phantom Menace” the sith came back after a thousand years of extinction and this spurs the events of the rest of the movies. Throughout this time period Americans were scared of the rise of the communist in the USSR. This was one of the major and ending events of the “war”, even though we won… we died a little inside, our “perfect democracy“ has been dieing ever since. Falling to the waves of time, endlessly falling getting worse year after year, soon i'll be all wasted, taken for granted. Just like the Jedi. The Jedi had nearly total control over the republic. As stated in Episode 3, “Revenge of the Sith” “PALPATINE: Remember back to your early teachings, Anakin: "All those who gain power are afraid to lose it." Even Jedi.” (George Lucas, 2005) this shows that no matter II who you are you'll always be afraid to lose your power. And with that loss of power comes jealousy… and greed, but the Jedi aren't supposed to feel these emotions… Riight? The corruption of the American Government has been shown throughout the history of our “Perfect Democracy”. During the Cold War, president Nixon committed a crime, we now know it as the Watergate Scandal. This exposed the fact that the government is corrupt. Just like the Jedi, the jedi have always been peace keepers of the galaxy… until they must intervene with the Senate to gain power over everyone in the republic. The rise of the Empire… one of the most crucial parts to the completion of the Prophecy… “You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the force... not leave it in darkness!”(George Lucas 2005). The prophecy states that this chosen one would destroy the dark side and bring balance to the force. And the chosen one would destroy the sith, this was his destiny… but in the end he failed, he joined the ones he pledged to destroy. The fall of the republic was the beginning of the rise of the empire after this order 66 was executed(as were the jedi) sidious gained control and threw the force into imbalance, as time goes on the force is thrown on its head and plunged into darkness… during Episode III, “Revenge of The Sith ” Padme concludes “So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause ”(George Lucas 2005) the republic had been overthrown by the sith, the jedi were destroyed by III the new sith… what was to come? Of course the dark side clouded the visions of the jedi, allowed the sith to infiltrate the republic. The Sith were originally a part of the je'daii but a civil war split them up, after this the “Sith” and “Jedi” were created, a prophecy was found… then thousands of years later the Jedi found their “Chosen One”, Anakin Skywalker was this Chosen One… but as the years went on this doubt of if he was the chosen one grew, as stated in Episode III”Revenge of The Sith” yoda states “ A prophecy that misread could have been”(George Lucas, 2005) this shows that the jedi may've been wrong(not the first time). After this Order 66 is put into effect and most of the Jedi are executed… |

The Prophecy
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away There will be a day The Chosen one When it's all said and done Will bring balance to the force Hoping he stays on course To destroy the sith Thought they were a myth Without change No hate or rage These lead to the dark side Don't have to hide But in the end His will will bend He joined the sith Killed the younglings So he went running He was cunning But he died in the end Betrayed and murdered by vader |
